Inter-institutional co-operation in Europe
The IET, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) have agreed to collaborate in Europe.
Statement of intent
The following is the text of a collaboration agreement signed by the Chief Executives of each of the institutions:
The members and staff of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) have worked together on Learned Society activities in a number of locations in mainland Europe in the past. Each institution has its own strategy for development in mainland Europe, but they agree to work together as equal partners where members and staff of all three institutions judge cooperation to be of mutual benefit.
Areas for cooperation are likely to include:
• Widening the publicity for activities
• Encouraging more people to become actively involved in the activities of all three institutions
• Raising the profile of the three institutions and of the whole engineering profession in Europe without conflicting with the national engineering organisations in mainland Europe.
This document is signed with the intention of demonstrating to members and staff that the three institutions are committed to developing a closer working relationship between their groups of members situated in mainland Europe.
