    Today we rely more than ever on infrastructure; it supports our daily activities and its continuity and performance is crucial to the success of the UK. The recent creation of Infrastructure UK and the Infrastructure Planning Commission underlines the increasing importance that Government attaches to our national infrastructure. Our infrastructure system is now highly interconnected and each sector – energy, transport, water – is dependent on the secure operation of others. This increases the risk of cascade failure where an issue in one area rapidly becomes a much wider problem.

Peer to peer file sharing

  • Digital Britain - illegal file sharing: “technical measures” will prove futile and infringe data privacy

    Since the launch of the Digital Britain report in 2009, there has been discussion on preventing illegal file sharing and downloading. The government has attempted to legislate against some of these activities as part of the Digital Economy Bill, which proposed granting Ofcom powers to force Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to target/block alleged illegal file sharing via "technical measures". The IET responded advising against the measures and warning of the futility of such an approach.
