IET Policy Panels

The IET has established fourteen Policy Panels to assist in policy development.

These panels provide strategic advice in response to Government consultations and develop position statements and other material within their field of expertise.

Communications Identifying policy issues applicable to the communications sector.

Education and Skills Identifying policy issues applicable to the education and skills sector.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Providing advice on how to approach functional safety issues and meet safety regulations.

Energy Providing guidance to IET members, government, Parliament and the public on energy policy issues.

Health and Safety Identifying policy issues applicable to the health and safety sector and providing guidance to IET members, government and the public.

Information Technology Identifying policy issues applicable to the information technology sector and providing guidance to IET members, government and the public.

Innovation and Emerging Technologies Providing expert advice and guidance on innovation, new technologies and innovation systems.

Manufacturing Identifying policy issues applicable to the manufacturing sector and providing guidance to government.

Mobile Phones, Pylons and Health The IET's Biological Effects Policy Panel - studying the health effects of mobile phones, power lines and base stations.

Transport Identifying policy issues applicable to the transport sector and providing guidance to IET members, government and the public.

Policy Panels for the UK Devolved Administrations

Northern Ireland The Northern Ireland Policy Panel acts as a two-way link between the profession and local government in Northern Ireland.

Scotland The Scotland Policy Panel acts as a two-way link between the profession and government in Scotland.

Inter-institutional Groups

(promoting collaboration between the institutions)

Inter-Institutional Health and Safety Co-ordinating the efforts of the engineering institutions in common areas of health and safety policy.

Independent Safety Assurance Promoting and assisting the role of the independent safety assessor.
