Activities
2010
- RTIC 2010
Prof. Phil Blythe and Yvonne Hübner received the Best Paper Award at the IET and ITS UK Conference: RTIC - Better Transport through Technology. They presented the work of the Transport Policy Panel on the unintended consequences from transport innovation. The event took place in London on 25-27 May 2010. - Electric vehicle infrastructure steering group
The Policy Panel has formed a steering committee to look at the safety aspects of the electric vehicle charging infrastructure. - Debate on alternative fuels
The IET Transport Policy Panel held a technical debate on alternative fuels for transport, chaired by Ian McDonald from Future Transport Systems. The discussion focussed on which fuel will provide the best alternative for different transport modes (road, rail, aeronautical and maritime transport). The panel believes that there will not be one single fuel in the future which can cater for all modes of transport and a range of fuels including electricity, biofuels and hydrogen will have a role to play in our future transport fuel mix. An event report will be published shortly.

- Engineering, infrastructure and climate change adaptation conference
Today we rely more than ever on infrastructure; it supports our daily activities and its continuity and performance is crucial to the success of the UK. The recent creation of Infrastructure UK and the Infrastructure Planning Commission underlines the increasing importance that Government attaches to our national infrastructure. Our infrastructure system is now highly interconnected and each sector – energy, transport, water – is dependent on the secure operation of others. This increases the risk of cascade failure where an issue in one area rapidly becomes a much wider problem.
