Why publish with the IET?
The IET offers a complete professional service in book publishing including: competitive royalties, excellent author support, a speedy and flexible production process including redrawing facilities, and dynamic sales and marketing operation in the UK and the USA. We publish by a single author, multiple authors and edited collections.
Compelling propositions
A key benefit of publishing with the IET is that the profits made are returned to the profession through the IET's other activities. In addition, the status of the IET enables greater flexibility and a more imaginative commissioning policy than some of our competitors. An established Editorial Team review proposals and commission new books, advise on their content and assists authors in developing their work and ideas. All books are intended for global readership and are extremely highly rated and respected. If you would like to submit an idea or a proposal please contact Lisa Reading, Commissioning Editor, at books@theiet.org
Commissioning and author support
We appreciate that professionals have considerable demands on their time, and hence we are flexible with our timetables for manuscript preparation; at the outset of a project we aim to agree on a realistic schedule. From the initial proposal to the submission of the final manuscript, authors receive support and advice from the Commissioning Editor. This includes constructive reviews of the text as it develops to provide feedback and suggestion.
Sales and marketing
IET books are marketed and sold internationally via the IET itself in the UK, our subsidiary in New Jersey, USA, international distributors and library supply companies and, of course, via the regular book trade. As the IET is a major conference and event organiser and sponsor in its field, there are many opportunities to display books at key conferences and exhibitions internationally. Additionally, all books are promoted through IET publications, our catalogues, individual title information sheets, press reviews and on the Internet. We are normally very happy to consider any suggestions authors might have for marketing their book.
The production process
The production of the book from final manuscript to publication is overseen by the Production Manager, Michelle Williams. We offer a fast and efficient service, and will be pleased to discuss options available and advise authors as required. The IET offers facilities, where required, for redrawing figures and can handle text in most formats.
On receipt of an accepted manuscript, the publisher will arrange for the pages to be thoroughly copyedited and proof-read. The manuscript will then be typeset and the final page proofs checked by the author. Finally, the manuscript is sent to the printer for reproduction, printing, binding and delivery. The description of the book provided by authors is used as the basis of the copy for the cover or jacket. Suggestions from authors for suitable cover illustrations are therefore always welcome.
Contribute to the future. Make your mark in your field. Return something to the profession. Write a book with IET Publishing.
